Survived Day One!

Wednesday (2008-09-10)

Ok, not only do I like napping...I think it may very well be my superpower! Thirteen hour time difference and no apparent jet lag.

So, I arrived in Sydney just after 8am (Aussie time)...got through customs with minimal issues...had to declare my hiking boots for inspection as they had a touch of dirt on them...but other than that a breeze.

I was really happy to see my luggage. I guess in this modern age of air travel it shouldn't be such a concerrn...but I've had occassion where my luggae didn't make it between Sydney, NS and Moncton, NB...so don't think my fears were ungrounded.

It was a pretty low key day today (intentionally). Since I'll be spending 4 days here at the conclusion of my OzXposure tour, I didn't really feel the need to run around finding landmarks. I did take the time to walk down to the harbour to check out the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge...how could I not.

Some people were surprised that I was staying at hostels during my pre and post tour time (they were even more surprised that my tour was pretty much all camping)...but first impressions are suggesting it's not going to be too bad at all. It's very communal in nature: Shared kitchen, shared dining, shared bathroom, dorm rooms (not necessarily the tidiest)...but all in all a very good atmosphere and friendly people. I guess that makes sense, since so many of the folks using the facilities are low budget travellers out to meet new people as well.

And travelling this way (staying in hostels) you have more money to buy gifts to bring back with you ;)

hmmm....maybe I will take silver instead of sand Ken lol!

The picture seem so surreal. I am enjoying the updates. I will try to check in more often. If we are putting in for gifts, I would like an official Melbourne T-Shirt or Hat, Hat may be smaller...

Thanks in advance
