Today is another travel day. We're off to Tannum Sands, 520 km away. We don't have any activities planned for Tannum Sands, it's more of a half way point to the Port of Brisbane... Not that we have any activities planned for Brisbane either... It's serving more as our gateway to a two day/one night sand Island experience on Moreton Island.
One cool thing about this drive is that we once again crossed the Tropic of Capricorn, only this time we're travelling South.
Our new participant, Emma, has some distant family in Tannum Sands, so she's off to stay the evening with them. For the rest of us, it's basically set up camp, prep supper and crash in preparation for tomorrow's drive.
I must say, these drives are quite tedious, but given the vastness of Australia we have all come to realize, more or less, it's the only economical way to get between points of interest. On the plus side, it's been these long drives that has afforded me the time to write my blog entries (and keep my sleep quotas in check! :-) ).
The person I have the greatest amount of respect for during these long trips is Matt (our Tour Leader); he's the one responsible for driving all these distances - day in and day out. He's not normally the first the crash at night; but is always the first up - and to be able to put in these super long days is just wild.
As with all of these long driving days, the highlight becomes supper; and so it was again tonight... And Matthew and Sasha were up for the challenge.
Tonight they have prepared chicken and beef kebabs with fried potatoe wedges... Ahhh, nice.
