Today is one of 3 very long driving days as we begin our trek to the East Coast. We're scheduled to clock around 700 kilometers today.
We were up at 5am and on the road by 6am.
There's really not much I could write about today's adventure except that it was characterized by the longest stretches of barren landscape I've seen yet...or have ever seen for that matter.
The roads were pretty wild. We changed from a two lane highway to a one lane highway. The rule of thumb is that as you approach an approaching vehicle, you both pull one set of wheels off to the dirt and continue driving, at a reduced speed. If that opposing vehicle happens to be a road train, then you pull over as far as possible and just wait for them to pass. Apparently with road trains, the slight left to right corrections made at the cabin are magnified by the time it gets to the 3rd and 4th trailers to a very prominent fishtailing from left to right. Luckily, we've only come across 2 length road trains so far - and they're not quite so bad...but we still have another day.
As Paul so eloquently put it; the only thing we really had to look forward to today was this evening's supper - so the pressure was on for Bart and Nikki to deliver. And deliver they did!
After a long day of driving, and the last couple of hours fighting with thousands of pesky houseflies who loved nothing more than buzzing around, and landing on our ears and any other exposed orafice; it was a great treat to enjoy a meal of nasi and sate ajam (which consisted of chicken cooked in a peanut sauce, with flavoured rice) served with sauted vegetables. Gourmet meals in the middle of nowhere...who woulda thunk!
After about 45 minutes of the best star viewing I've ever had - it was just so dark and the Milky Way was just so bright - it was time for our largest bonfire yet. It was a roaring fire (we needed to use up the last of our campfire wood - and we had plenty). After the bonfire it was time to crash, for tomorrow promised to be yet another long day of driving.

Good luck getting a ride. A great read once again. I didn't get a chance to check the posting in a while.
I went on a Crocodile Tour in Jamaica but they were certainly a lot smaller. It was a place called Black River. They were in the range of 6 - 10 feet. I guess if you are going to a real crocodile, Aussi is the place to find one.
Pictures are awesome. I think I would get some of them blown up when you return. If they are not too expensive, FREE.
Looking forward to the next episode of Kenny TV.(Commercial Free). Write again after the next post.
